Happy 2009!!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year's to all!

Our first Christmas with David was a wonderful milestone for the new mom and dad. David was an angel through all of the travel and family gatherings and, although he really had no idea what all the commotion was about, he is definately enjoying his new books and toys. He's becoming more and more able to coordinate his hands to reach our to things and manipulate them including choo-choo trains, teethers, book pages, blankies, and nuks....although with the nuk he hasn't been able to figure out how to get it back into his mouth (at least not the right part) once he sees it in his hands. It's amazing to watch him grow and explore his world! We are definately looking forward to what 2009 has in store for the Minnesota Gibbs'.
Best wishes to everyone in 2009! See you there....

David's starting to talk back!!!

Well, he's starting to react to our noises and make some of his own. It's kinda like a conversation, although nobody involved has any idea what the other is saying. We just know that it sounds warm and friendly. He's also becoming much more attentive to things around him like the playground thingy in the picture, his tummy time mat, and the Winnie-the-Pooh wall decals next to his changing table. It's pretty amazing to see the development process happening right before you. Now we just hope we don't screw it up ;)

As one of my coworkers observed, it's obvious we're in the throws of parenting because we haven't updated this blog in nearly 4 weeks!

David is now 4 weeks and 3 days old. You might think it's silly to include the days, but we swear David grows overnight! He's putting on some baby chunk and working on his 2nd chin. I think there are even extra elbows, knees and cankles developing!

Mom and dad are getting a bit more used to the schedule but have given up on the idea of full acclimation. It's just not going to happen. But that's okay because we have the cutest baby in the world so that makes everything lots, lots better!

He's only 4 days old??????

Man....feels like he's been around for about 4 weeks. I suppose the unaccounted passage of time is a result of sleep deprivation and having our world turned upside down. It's actually difficult to separate one day from the next, but we're figuring it out. And really, 8-12 feedings per day!!!! At an average of an hour per "session"!!!!! That's half the day spent preparing to feed, feeding, or recovering from feeding.... As much as David doesn't always like to be awakened for feeding he seems to enjoy a full belly. We had a nurse out to the house today for a quick check-up on Katy and David and everything is just fine with mom and baby. Nobody bothered to check on dad, but that's okay, he's doing well too. Hopefully we'll be back here soon with a new pic of David at home. The camera seems to have been set aside since we've come home, but we got it back out and should have some new ones soon...maybe even of David awake!!! TTFN
